One of the best parts of my day, is seeing that when I'm about to jump in the car to head to work, the first thing I consistently see on Facebook is that Buddy has already been at the gym for an hour.  Buddy is a man on a mission for sure, and is showing all the drive and determination that he always does when his heart is in something.  It's very apparent when talking to him that this is affecting more than just his physical health.  Buddy's attitude, confidence and general outlook are also reaping the benefits of his hard work.  At last count, I think Buddy had lost over 30 lbs, and is making consistent progress.  I think this is just the tip of the ice burg, but I'm happy to see he's moving full speed towards his goal!  Keep up the awesome work Buddy!!!  Big thanks again to trainer Sean Molenkamp and Impact Fitness KC for all their help and support.  You've got Buddy going down the right path, and we ALL appreciate your help.

Nicole update

It has been a little over a month since Buddy has started his Journey to 300!! While I was typing my very first blog I remember feeling both excited and nervous at the same time. Excited because of this amazing opportunity Buddy was presented with but VERY nervous due to his history of "falling off the bandwagon" very quickly after starting to try and loose weight. I am very pleased to say that Buddy is still going strong! Literally! :)

There are still times that I worry about him getting sick of working out or cooking his food, etc and I think those thoughts/feelings will be there for a while but everyday that Buddy gets up to go work out, those thoughts are pushed farther and farther back in my head. I heard him say something Sunday night I have never ever heard him say in 8 years..."Im excited to go work out Monday morning"....I didn't even know what to say/think! I had the opportunity to go to a workout and video tape some of his exercises with Sean! He was working SO HARD!

Sean is very good at what he does and really knows how to encourage Buddy! A couple of times Sean even participated in the exercise which I know Buddy enjoyed! Its always easier/more fun when you have someone working out with you who is just as excited for this transformation! We will hopefully get some of those video's up soon!

A couple of weeks ago we celebrated our daughter's 2nd birthday! The entire family went out to a place called Power Play which is a huge indoor playground basically with every arcade game you could possibly imagine! We were there for a couple of hours and I don't think I saw Buddy sit down once! Except to eat! AND! He found every ingredient for one of his meals and ate ONLY THAT! He never ate a piece of cake during our one week celebration! He had 3 different opportunities! He is extremely fueled by compliments and encouragement! All the words of encouragement we can get only pushes him to work harder and harder!

I am so proud of him! 20 lbs in 27 days is AMAZING to say the least!! I never ever in a millions years thought that he would be the one who would get me more interested in eating healthy/working out but I have to say...I see how hard he is working and it only makes me want to start working out again!! Can't wait to see some more progress!!

P.S. I love watching him flex his muscles in the mirror! :)

FIRST ENTRY FROM BUDDY'S TRAINER, SEAN MOLENKAMP

Today was our first weigh-in since our program started 27 days ago. I have trained Bryan 7 times and he has been in to do cardio everyday otherwise except Sundays! Bryan came to me at close to 480 lbs, and wanted to change! It has been a rad experience so far! I'm a very happy with the progress Bryan has made very thus far! He has shown me that he is very motivated to do this, and I see it showing more in him everyday!

As his trainer I am more than happy to report that Bryan has lost 20 pounds in the last 27 days! During this time his body has had to get used to a boost in calories and consistent meals, as well as working out on consistent basis.  All of this has helped sparked the fix and increase of his metabolic rate.

During this process, Bryan has also shown an increase in strength. Being on a stabilized diet and lifting weights initially, will also reignite muscle growth! So it's safe to say that Bryan has put on a bit of weight from muscle growth. Bryan's weight loss may have been a few pounds higher if we weren't weight training in this program. What this means, is that the weight that we have shaved off of Bryan's body is strictly fat loss!

Way to go Buddy!!!! I'm proud of you! Can't wait to see what the next year brings!

CONGRATULATIONS on your first 20 pound loss!

Update week of 9/9/13-9/15/13

Update time!!!!

Hello everyone, first I want to start with thank you. I can't even explain how grateful I am for all of you that have wished me luck and encourage me. That is just more fuel for my determination to reach my goal. So let me let you know how everything is going.

We'll last week I came back to WI. For one of my best friends wedding ( Jordan Johnson). So I left last Thursday but before I left I made sure to get in my cardio. We got into WI and I'm not going to lie it was really hard to find time to get my meals in and try to cook them. So I had to make smart decision on what I ate. So Friday was wedding day so I got up nice and early to get my cardio because I am trying my hardest to not miss a workout day. Then it was wedding time what a great wedding. I danced my butt off. I have to say if it wasn't for this life change I guarantee that I would not of had enough energy to dance like I did on that wedding night. Now for you all that know me knows I love to dance. So the next morning I was feeling a little sore but was excited to see my nephew play football and he even got a int. I was so proud even though I would have loved to see him in 3 pt stand like his uncle did JK.... I got back to kc on Monday night and I knew it was time to get back into my daily routine.

My workouts this week with Sean was great. They are really tough but I am loving that I am getting back into the swing of things and getting my strength back. On Saturday my work out consist of some leg work. Now when Sean told me I was going to do some leg lifting I was nervous. I have not done any leg work out since I hurt my knee. So I was a little weary of them. But I knew Sean knows what he is doing and would never put my knee in harm or hurting more. So we started with some body squats and then some leg extensions. After those I was surprised at the fact my knee was not bothering me and then the last leg workout was leg press and I was shocked how well I did. I also did some triceps and bench workouts with my leg workouts.

Overall I am still loving that I am back in the weight room and working out. I know I still have a hard and long path left but with everyone support and me having the confidence and attitude I have I know it is possible.  Not this week but next week I will be weighing in for the first time with Sean. So I will definitely be giving you guys an update on that. Thanks for all the support and if you have any suggestions or comments feel free to leave them.

A visit home from my brother

This weekend was a wonderful weekend it was the first time my brother has been home since the start of this journey :) even after only a week of working out I could see a difference in his face and his attitude! He also brought along us wife and my sweet beautiful niece Marley.  it was great just seeing how happy they are.

Normally on a visit you could see the stress on Nicole's face and the tension when it came to eating and this time for the most part there was none of that! I was so proud of my brother I can only imagine how hard it is for him.

They got  in on Thursday and it was busy he was in a wedding that Friday and had lots to do that Thursday night and he still woke up early Friday morning to get some cardio in! Then Friday he danced the night away and was conscious for the most part about what he ate.

On Saturday they came to stay with us.  My son had a football game so I knew how excited he was to be there for that, just seeing the look of joy on my kids face to have their Uncle Buddy there warmed my heart.

My oldest son had a great game and Uncle Buddy was there to see him get his second interception, just hearing my brother scream and cheer and jump up and down just so excited, reiterated how important this journey is. My kids need their Uncle Buddy, they need his love and support.  I need him to be here for those moments.

My brother is such an important person to me.  So seeing this lifestyle change is amazing.  He even asked me to go grocery shopping to make sure he had all the food we needed to make sure he could stay on track.

Now I will say I was a little disappointed more in myself then him, that Saturday we went out to eat and made the mistake of going to a buffet.  He did a goos job of making healthy decisions ( or,as healthy as he could) but I would have liked to have seen him not go up as many times as he did.  I blame my self for putting him in that situation.

So Sunday I made sure we did the smart thing and ate in :) All in all I was very proud of my baby brother.  It made saying goodbye to him hard this morning! But I look forward to seeing more of a change in him next time I see him :)

A Wife's Perspective

Words CANNOT describe how grateful I am for both Asherrie and her husband Joe for getting the ball rolling on Buddy's weight loss and his Journey to 300! For at least 6 years, I have had this constant worry in the back of my head for my husband's health and his weight struggles. I always thought that I'd be able to "change" his ways, but quickly learned that his "issues" stemmed way deeper than just eating unhealthy. I'd always try to talk with him about it and tried EVERY possible way to help him. Regardless, I still loved him more than anything and was always willing to try out new ways to help him lose weight, no matter how irritated/mad he got at me! Besides Buddy's family, I know that his potential in anything he does is AMAZING! I have never seen someone so quickly catch onto whatever they are doing! When I first met Buddy I literally had NO IDEA! The first time I went to visit his family I was astonished at all his awards! It was awesome! That's when I really started to see/understand how badly he was hurting. I was still competing in gymnastics at the time, so it was hard to connect on his level and the fact that he'd really lost his first true love. I never thought about how hard it was for him to watch all his teammates getting ready for the football games, going to practice, watching films, etc, especially since he lived with 2 of them! I can't imagine...

When Buddy moved to KC in January we had our wedding coming up in July! I really pushed him to lose weight for this and he did! He looked so handsome! (and still does :) ) I remember how MAD he would get at me when I would get mad at him for not working out! lol! I even remember working out with him the day after I had my wisdom teeth removed just so he would do it! I think I almost died!

When our daughter, Marley, was born in October, I really thought that this tiny person would 'change' Buddy for the best. I knew from the second I laid eyes on her how lucky she was to have a Buddy for a father. He has always been so wonderful with his nieces/nephews and has done pretty much whatever he could do to make them happy! Right after she was born, I looked over at the incubator and saw Buddy holding Marley's hand for the first time, there was no doubt in my mind that there wouldn't be anything he wouldn't do for her! I know that Buddy is amazing and I can't imagine him not being in Marley's life or to experience all those things father's get to enjoy with their daughters, or most of all to be able to walk her down the isle.. Those thoughts have weighed heavily in my mind multiple times a day for the last 2 years. Marley is a HUGE factor in this journey and I'm so glad Buddy has this amazing little girl to help him achieve his goals! She has the best daddy in the whole world! I know she is too young to understand anything right now, but she will understand how hard her daddy is working and changing so that he can be around for her! She is so proud already!

This opportunity/journey means so much to me and my family. It's a chance for Buddy to get his life back. I feel so bad that he has been struggling with the loss of football for so many years. In all reality, this journey isn't about me. Its all about my husband. When I think about how far he has come, I could cry! (Happy tears of course!) For the first time in a long time I have started to see little glimpses of my hubby. He was absolutely glowing when he got home from work after his first workout! When I asked him about it, he stated, "it was hard, but I loved it!" He only had wonderful things to say about Sean and the crew at Impact Fitness! My heart is so happy for my husband! He has something that is his and I know he will give 110%. There was never a doubt in my mind that he is nothing short of a hard worker especially when he really is excited about it! ( I wish he was as excited about keeping our house clean!) It would be glowing!   I love my husband and can't wait for him to conquer his goal to 300!!

Asherrie/Joe-- I am forever grateful to you two and what you have done for Buddy...If i think about it long enough, I can't help but cry. Without you guys this never would've been started and I can't thank you enough. We love you and your family and I dont' think we've actually said, "THANK YOU!!!!!!!" So--THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart!  You guys are Buddy's real hero's! Love you!

Workout Day 1

Me and my team at IMPACTFITNESS

All right it has begun! First workout in the books with Sean Molenkamp. We started off on the treadmill for some cardio. He had me doing intervals of incline and then faster walking for 30 minutes. Next it was time for lifting some weights. I was really excited to get back into lifting weights.

All day yesterday I was reminiscing about the weights I used to put up. This morning, reality smacked me in the face.  It was my first time lifting a weight in a few years and it was tough. I started out doing a dumbbell bench press set of 15 with 35lbs then right after that I moved to hammer curls 25 lbs for 15. First set I was feeling good. Then on next set I bumped my bench press to 40 lb. dumbbell and man I could feel it.

Then hammer curls I was able to get halfway with 25lbs and then switched to 20 lbs. On my third set I did 45 lb. for bench and at this time my arms and chest were numb. Sean had to guide me through my last five. Next we moved over to another machine for my chest and with that I did arm curls on a machine. Now at this time I could hardly push around weight but with Sean's help I made it through my 3 sets of 15 each.

Now the last part of my workout Sean had me pressing a med ball 20 lb. in front of me and jogging or walking to it and pressing it again through the fitness center. I did 2 sets my last set was with 30 lbs. then I had a 10 minute cool down on the treadmill.

Overall I am very pleased with my first workout. Sean is a great trainer and pushes me. I do have to say it was a wake up call with the weights. It made me realize I am not as strong as I used to be. But with hard work and determination I think I can get back into fighting shape.
